Designed in the Grand Seiko Style, which embodies the aesthetic beauty of Japan
The year 1967 saw the release of the 44GS, the watch in which the design language known as Grand Seiko Style was fully realized. By modernizing this midcentury classic with a modern material, movement, and set of proportions while seeking to re-create the design elements as much as possible, we have arrived at an evolved 44GS design. This model has inherited a design befitting Grand Seiko in all aspects, from the highly legible hands and dial to the sharp angles of the case, creating a watch that takes Japanese aesthetics in a distinctively modern direction.
A dial that symbolizes the morning sun, the beginning of a new day
A major inspiration for Grand Seiko is the beautiful scenery of Japan, a source that lends the company’s designs a special kind of uniqueness. The dial of this model is no different, evoking a beautiful tapestry woven by nature. Taking its inspiration from Mt. Iwate bathing in the sun’s red morning light, the dial expresses the rays falling on the majestic peak, which can be seen from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the home of Grand Seiko mechanical watchmaking.
Ever-Brilliant Steel features superior resistance to corrosion
Ever-Brilliant Steel is a stainless-steel material that shines with a brilliant white and boasts higher corrosion resistance than the stainless steel that is generally used in high-end watches. Indeed, it has the highest level of corrosion resistance of any stainless steel. The material typically finds use in harsh environments in which it is exposed to chloride, including offshore structures and chemical and food processing plants, and has been difficult to harness for use in personal accessories like wristwatches, which demand a very high degree of quality. But Grand Seiko continuously strives to innovate by making watches that one can use for a long time. So it conducted a review of its regular manufacturing processes from top to bottom and succeeded in implementing this special material for both the case and bracelet.

A mechanical watch that captivates with its scarlet color and carries forward the design of the 44GS
When the 44GS debuted in 1967, it established a unique design language known as the Grand Seiko Style. Now, a new mechanical watch presents a modernized design that inherits the uncanny ability of the 44GS to demonstrate the limitless expression that exists between light and dark. It does so while adding its own interpretation of modernity thanks, in part, to the highly precise and durable Caliber 9S85. The watch’s case and bracelet are crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, And within this fine case, which shimmers due to the brilliant white of the steel, we find a dial in a deep scarlet color, expressing the morning sun as it falls upon the side of Mt. Iwate.
