The lasting beauty of the white birch forest of Japan is captured in the textured dial with the revolutionary 9SA5 caliber.

Globally revealed on 12th February 2021, the watch captures the mood of the white birch tree forests around the Shizukuishi Studio where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are crafted. In summer and winter alike, the tall, slender trunks and the white bark of the birch trees present a shimmering vista that is at once beautiful and mysterious.

The overall look of the new creation is known as the Series 9 Design and it will be an important part of the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection’s signature in the years to come. Its powerful hands and grooved, prominent markers ensure perfect legibility, its Zaratsu polished, distortion-free mirror finish and delicate hairline finish alternate to give the case a quiet and harmonious glow. The case has wide lugs and a low center of gravity that ensure that the watch sits easily and securely on the wrist. The Series 9 Design is true to the Grand Seiko Style defined back in 1967 with the celebrated 44GS, but its heritage is combined with a powerful contemporary feel that points towards a new era.

This high-beat watch is powered by the revolutionary slimmer Caliber 9SA5 with 80 hours power reserve. First presented in March 2020, 9SA5 is an entirely new high beat mechanical movement. Developed from scratch exclusively for Grand Seiko, Caliber 9SA5 will be the foundation upon which a whole new generation of Grand Seiko mechanical watches will be created. Nine years in development and deploying all the skills and experience that Grand Seiko has gained over the past 60 years, 9SA5 is without doubt the finest mechanical caliber Grand Seiko has ever created. Setting a new standard in high-beat horology giving the watch a slender profile. The beauty of the movement finishes is revealed through the sapphire crystal case back.
